Nifty Stats settings - Download Options

April 3, 2013

As you know, Nifty Stats is a desktop application which runs on your local computer and not the server. This makes it safer to handle sensitive statistical data. Your computer is only accessible to you or users whom you grant access but do you know who has access to a server? Do you know them or do you have any control over them? Are you the admin? If you are not, there could be a serious security issue and that makes Nifty Stats the ideal solution. As I mentioned, all information is stored on your computer and nowhere else.

Let’s have a look at setting up the Download options now. You can either do the setup right after installing Nifty Stats or modify anything at a later moment.

Open Nifty Stats and click on Nifty Stats > Options in the top right menu. A small section named Download options appears. This is where you can set the parameters for downloading stats from affiliate programs and advertising networks.

1. Download statistics after start

If you select this function, Nifty Stats will begin downloading your statistics from your affiliate programs and PPC campaigns into Nifty Stats right after start-up. After a while all the stats are displayed.

2. Download interval

This function sets the interval for periodic downloads of your statistics from affiliate programs and advertising networks. If you set the interval to 30 mins Nifty Stats will wait 30 minutes and then connect to your affiliate programs, automatically log in using your login data, and download the statistics into Nifty Stats. You will be able to view all the stats in one window and as one table. The whole process is repeated 30 minutes later again. This keeps you updated on your earnings and expenses. Without Nifty Stats you would have to log in to each affiliate program or advertising network separately. Nifty Stats saves you a lot of valuable time which you can dedicate to expanding your business.

3. Number of download threads

The number of connections which are created simultaneously when logging in to affiliate programs. If your maximum number of threads is 10 then statistics are downloaded from 10 affiliate programs or advertising networks at the same time. A higher number of threads does not always mean that affiliate program or advertising network stats download more quickly. Your internet connection bandwidth and computer speed are also important. The maximum value is 20 and the default value 10 threads. If the simultaneous downloads are slowing your computer down or taking up too much bandwidth, reduce the number of threads.

4. Retry count

Retry count is the number of retries in case of failure to connect to the affiliate program statistics on the remote server. In case of failure Nifty Stats attempts a connection repeatedly. If you set Retry Count to 2, Nifty Stats will attempt to connect to the remote server (where the affiliate program or advertising network is located) twice.

You can change this setting as you feel necessary, or according to your connection bandwidth or computer speed.
